The mysterious land of strength training

I'm sure you hear a lot about this mysterious of strength training nowadays, but not many of you have been there.

So what's so fascinating and special about it? Let me kindly introduce you to it and i promise you will become as fascinated about it as me!

Strength training is a combination of exercises that are specializing in the use of resistance to introduce muscular contraction. It focuses on building the strength, anaerobic endurance and the size of skeletal muscles. Or in other words, lift weights - build muscle!

However, many people have very skeptical opinions about strength training, especially the ones who want to loose weight and think that lifting weights doesn't help you with it, so they stick to their boring cardio. Lies! All lies! Let me just clear few thing for you, there are so many myths about strength training that are keeping you away from reaching your fitness goals! Well, it's a good thing i'm here for you, ready to crush all the myths and get those facts straight!

Myth #1 - Weights will make me bulky.

Fact #1 - "90% of women are physiologically unable to build muscle to the degree where they would be considered bulky."

That's the myth most common with the women, as they are afraid to get too muscly and look manly. Well, guess what, that not gonna happen, thanks to hormones. It is simply a function of estrogen and lack of testosterone. This means woman will never build muscle like a man's, unless she is trying to achieve such results. Instead, you'll create firm, feminine curves. So now, you can stop worry about becoming a hulk and lift a weight or two.

Myth #2 - Light weights are all you need.

Fact #2 - "Every time you challenge your body with heavier weight, you're creating more microtears in the muscle. As your body repairs those microtears with amino acids, your lean mass becomes stronger, tighter and more compact."

Yes, if you are just a beginners, 3kg weights can do miracles for your strength and body. But let's not forget that the ultimate goal here is to not only increase your lean mass, but also to make muscle stronger, denser and get rid of the harmful fat, that is why regularly increasing your weights is very important.

Myth #3 - It's all about muscle.

Fact#3 - "Studies have shown that just 10 weeks of progressive strength training can reduce anxiety, fatigue, depression and the sense of tranquility, and revitalization in older adults."

If a promise of a stronger, fitter body isn't enough to get you pick up the weights, consider that it will also help protect your brain. It basically means you are not only getting into the great physical shape, but also a great mental health, which is as much important as your physical.

Myth #4 - It burns fewer calories than cardio.

Fact #4 - "The muscles of a strength trainer burn 50% more calories than the muscles of a runner or a walker"

That translates to you burning an extra 100 calories per day just by staying alive. Over the course of month, you could loose as much as 1.5 pounds of fat, without dieting! So, there you go, you burn those unnecessary calories and give your body a healthy lean look.
